Talking to plants... WRONG !
Mar 21 2008, 4:22 PM EDT Aloha ! Of all the non exploding myths, the "Talking to plants" myths still bugs me the most. It bugs me so bad, that I think they should revisit this one..... Ok, why ? What went wrong ? What did they do ??? They tried to see what would happen if one would talk to plants. Will it make them grow faster or will they shrivel and die? As a side dish, the treated the plants to some music too. But wait a minute... Did you see Kari, Tory or anyone else go up the roof and actually TALK to the plants ? noooooooosurryyyyy.... Now you are going to say : "Wo wo wo dude, they had I love you love you love you recordings playing. And THAT is exactly what went wrong there... The myth is not : Will sound vibrations make plants grow better, it is : Will TALKING to plants make them grow better. Then the narrator Robin Banks protests : "If the build team would stay all the time, they could skew the result by the carbon dioxide in their breath" I think the breath is actually a key factor in this whole myth... So in a revisit they should do these things : 1 - Find out what kind of gasses are exhaled in like ten mins of talking. 2 - Find out how long people actually talk to their plants (for example three times ten mins a day 3 - Rebuild the greenhouses again and setup a rig that "breathes" on the plants three times a day for ten mins, AND plays the I love you love you love you recordings for ten mins at the same time... And a small tip : Don't let the water system fail this time... Ok, that is my two-euro-cents.... Greets, Jessy - The Netherlands.... 13 out of 17 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Talking to plants... WRONG !
Apr 2 2008, 9:34 PM EDT Also, the only way the person's exhalation would affect the plant's growth are A. they had their face right up to the plant, or B. they were in a small airtight room with the plant. Another thing, an increase in CO2 will only work if there's an equal increase in water going to the plant. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Apr 3 2008, 5:16 AM EDT yeah but when i see people talk to plants the wter them at the same time as talking to them so that should be an equal increase in CO2 and water 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Talking to plants... WRONG !
Apr 29 2008, 3:28 PM EDT Aloha ! Who says it is about the CO2 ? What is some other gas in the exhale of the human being is somehow reacting in a strange way ? And ehhr, watering is not all people do with plants... They also give fertilizer etc etc All in all, all these factors just might spawn some still unknown chemical reaction making the plant grow faster.... And last but not least.... Peas ??? Really, do YOU have peas in your livingroom ? BTW: Did you ever notice that your plants look not really pristine when you come back from a vacation ? Did they miss you ??????? RE: Talking to plants... WRONG !
Apr 30 2008, 4:17 PM EDT I agree with the subject line: talking to plants is wrong! Show us plants with some kind of noise receptors (re: EARS) and some measurable amount of intelligence or ability to communicate via sound waves and quit picking on peas. They're attractive and tasty, and I'll grow them wherever I want. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Talking to plants... it's only wrong when plants talk back....
May 16 2008, 4:51 AM EDT well i don't talk to plants, they don't talk back, but i think out loud or i'm always talking to myself, like what would my art look like if i did it this way.....i don't worry about what i make as art, i make abstracts, and then people tell me what it is....sold, i don't think when i make art it just happins',what ever i make it sells itself, i don't know, but i have bin doing art for 29 years now..i just make art , i don't think about what i make it just comes out, i've bin doing this for 30 years now, when i go to malls people open doors for me, like who do they think i am?, i just say thank you very much, i done years of art shows, i have even sold out on the first day of the shows, it's like i can't make it fast that fast, making pottery takes time, lots of time, so while i'm waiting for it to dry, i just make more 1 out of 1 found this valuable. May 19 2008, 3:45 PM EDT The narrator in the UK is Robin Banks, a British guy (well, he's got an English accent anyway!). Weird that it's different here to in the US. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

That is weird -- I always wonder about narrators in other countries. It's strange that they switch them out when both countries speak English. (Yeah yeah, here come the wise cracks about our butchering of your mother tongue, lol.) I notice that the voices are different on certain children's shows, like Teletubbies and Bob the Builder. I mean, why?! As if my children can't understand Bob if he suddenly sounded British? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
