Your Scientific Method

Did the MythBusters get it right? How would you have busted this myth differently? Share your experiment design for how you would prove/disprove this myth:

  • We have a pair of what we call "Jesus shoes". They were made in the fifties or early sixties and seemed very similar to the pontoon like contraptions the MB's made. They work. You have to pump you feet up and down as if running in place and just slightly back and forth. This may seem different than the design of the fins on the bottom imply. The record on our pair is across a section of Nancy Lake in Southcentral Alaska several hundred yards across. Although it took forever. The prevailing winds there are perpendiculair to the route but I don't know the exact conditions that day. I have used these pontoon shoes and can say there is definite albiet slight forward propulsion. They can cause groin pain though, from having to constantly keep your legs from floating into the splits. As far as ninjas go...The adversary of any ninja foolish enough to use these would have time for lunch and a nap before the ninja got half way across any substantial body of water.

This URL shows U.S. army soldiers "walking on water" with flotation devices similar to those used in the show:

I guess the myth wasn't "busted" after all...
