Traffic Light Universal Remote?
On youtube I found this weird video of someone using a universal remote to change a red light to green. They said they tried it four more times after this and it worked every time. Could this really work? The video only shows one time, but the light turns red, and as the car approaches turns green right away. It happened when they pressed the play button.
This is something I think Tory, Grant and Kari should try, because it's not a very big myth. But if Adam and Jamie want to do it, that's fine. I just want confirmation that this may or may not work, and if it's even legal (which I don't think it is).
Here's the video:

This myth is grounded in reality, but all the versions presented here are just plain wrong. A very small percentage of traffic lights (usually at major intersections and in cities) have the ability to detect a specific infrared light strobing sequence and change the light. Technically, the emitter devices can only be purchased by specially licensed people and organizations for use on emergency vehicles. It is possible to build such a device at home, but you'd have to get your hands on a real device to figure out the sequence.

I think that this one is fake actually. I did however find a more believable version of this. It states that if you have a strobe light set to the right strobe rhythm, or even if you just flash your brights at the right rhythm, it will cause the stoplight (which supposedly has a sensor in it) to think that you are an emergency truck/cop car flashing its warning lights, and will turn green. Supposedly not all stop lights have the sensor, and some whole cities do not have the sensors installed at all. I hope that if the remote version of this myth gets tested that the strobe/flashing your brights version also gets tested along with it.

I've heard of something very similar. However, instead of a remote, it was a walkie-talkie. It was set to frequency 5 and when the 'talk' command was activated, the lights would turn green. However, it only worked with just a few lights. Still pretty interesting, though.
