Top 10 Fan Favorite Myths

We recently asked all registered members on the Official MythBusters Fan Site to nominate their favorite myths from the show. After the nominations were compiled and narrowed down according to popularity, members were asked to vote for their top 10 favorites.

We have the results of this poll below, as well as accompanying videos. Not surprisingly, MythBusters fans seem to favor explosions.

1. Exploding Water Heater

According to this myth, a neglected water heater can explode and possibly blow through a house like a rocket.


2. Diet Coke and Mentos

This variation of the Pop Rocks urban legend suggests that eating a handful of Mentos and drinking soda can rupture your stomach.


3. Escape From Alcatraz

Here, the MythBusters see if it really is possible to escape from Alcatraz using a dummy and a raincoat life raft.


4. Jet-Assisted Chevy

According to this myth, a motorist attached a Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO) rocket bottle to his '67 Chevy and was found miles from the scene in a smoldering wreck.


5. Paper Crossbow

Can prisoners make a deadly crossbow out of newspaper? Below, a young man tries out his homemade paper crossbow.


6. Exploding Pants

According to many farmers, spontaneous trouser combustion is all too real. The MythBusters investigate with some pants of their own, of course.


7. Confederate Rocket

Here, the MythBusters join forces to find out if the Confederate Army had a secret deadly weapon — the world's first long-range missile.


8. Jet Taxi

If a taxi is passing a jet as it goes into full throttle, can it be overturned? This was one of the biggest stunts tested by the show.

9. Hindenburg Mystery

The hypothesis of this test is that the Hindenburg tragedy was caused by flammable thermite skin.

10. Cement Buildup

Has cement hardened in the back of your truck? No problem, you can just clean it with a stick of dynamite!
