The best ice traction is a rear-wheel drive vehicle with the weight of the vehicle over the drive wheels, not the steering wheels. I give you the original Volkswagen Beetle. My '72 Super Beetle was incapable of loosing control on the ice. In college (in the '90s) other kids would go to empty parking lots and intentionally spin their cars out of control on the black ice. While just as reckless, my car would not do what theirs would ... completely spin out. I could make it fishtail a little, but nothing amazing. I always had control if I wanted it. It was a little disappointing.
