Watch
Of course it is impossible to tell from watching a show, but this episode seemed to do its best to portray Jamie as an Aspie, one who has Asperger Syndrome, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome , (sometimes it is called "Wrong Planet Syndrome", there is a website for Aspies at http://www.wrongplanet.net/ ).
The comment that Jamie builds robots to have other people who are like him was particularly telling. Aspies seem to lack some of the usual natural relationship between inner feelings and outward expression. Not quite like Mr Spock, but awkward to most people. The clumsiness in speech, the hint that he perhaps cannot juggle, the obsessiveness with a clean shirt and shop wouldn't be unexpected. The teasing by others is also a characteristic response to the condition. The Aspie may have a hard time distinguishing the cruel joke from the good-natured one. They may approach decyphering such social situations much as a science project. This is a condition that has plusses as well as minuses, and is thus really a difference rather than a disability. Lot of Aspies are scientists, engineers, and accountants, also artists and musicians (who find in art a way to express themselves that is otherwise lacking). Here is an interesting take on it http://www.karenemigh-aspergers.com/id12.html . |

Watch
So i watched this episode a few times and somthing just kept getting under my skin, i finally realized what it was...
Jamie: "Wer'd be just some scientest reading stuff off of a chart... people would find it boring, this is an adventure for us to acutally figure this stuff out..." jamie if you ever acutally read this post, just a fyi, a scientest one who submits papers for peer review, actually figure the stuff out,and it is an adventure; more often than not (more like 9999/10000) things dont work out as planned and you have to start over, making minute changes until the experiment is perfected. Then you repeat it over and over to ensure that it is accurate. To get to the point of reading off steps, or a chart, can sometimes take years or decades... Sorry but i had to get that off my chest Cheers! Great Show and all that |
