Sniper Scope Revisited

to me, if the test is simply to see whether a bullet can travel through all the lenses in a scope with the bullet entering the scope at as near a optimum angle to succeed, then it may be plausible in the manner you are shooting your witness plates. if your plate is .020 inch, try shooting it at an angle and then put a sheet of paper at a distance behind your plate to see if the round has begun to yaw. but if you are trying to duplicate the actual famed sniper shot through the scope into the eye scenario, then there are many variables which must be addressed and at this point all things are not equal. i still say, the most important thing in this test is to find the exact range and angle the shot was taken, as this will allow us to calculate bullet drop arc. remember, the farther the shot, the more of a downward arc the bullet is coming down at and if the bullet is coming down at an angle, it will hit the objective lens at an angle, instantly starting the bullet to yaw. is this not true? once we know this, we must also know what kind of ammo was fired (bullet weight, velocity, bc and sd, and barrel length). if the round fired was indeed an ap round, as the steel core would affect the bullets rotational stability at differing speeds than a fmj bullet with no steel core. if you really want the test to be as close to the actual shot, it also has to be made at the same altitude in the same temperature and humidity as all these factors will affect bullet flight. shooting bullets at an aluminum witness plate 5 to 15 meters is in no way even close to the supposed shot. also, we need to find out what kind of scope was shot as different scopes come in different lengths, widths, with different thickness of lenses, and differing quality of glass. also, if you're putting the bullets through the same hole, doesn't it mean that the following bullets aren't touching the sides as they are flying through a hole as the first bullet has already removed the metal?
