Myth Title: Horse Jailbreak


Myth Description:
Was it possible to break out of an old west jail by tying a rope to a horse to pull the bars out from the window?


MythBusters on the bust: Adam and Jamie


Hypothesis: ----


Procedure/Experimental Design:
Build a wild west jail and attach a strong rope to the bars. Attach the other end of the rope to a horse. Make the horse gallop as fast as he can with the most power possible to try to pull the bars off the wall.


Results:
The horses couldn't pull the bars out.


Conclusion:
Required force not capable of being supplied by horses

Every time I've seen the horse-pulling-the-bars out bit in a movie, it's a metal frame holding the bars, embedded in the window by some kind of masonry. I don't know if any actual jails were built like that, but it should have been addressed, one way or the other.
