For some reason the Mythbusters decide to test if a disposable lighter will explode if tumbled dry all by it self in a clothes dryer.
Then after allegedly several hours of drying, nothing happens, and Jamie concludes that 2 crucial factors (heat(to melt gas container) + ignition source) are missing before the lighter could explode.

The reason atleast 1 of the factors is missing is caused by the missing clothes in the dryer, any clothes containing synthetic fibers is capable of building a static charge, and that could be you ignition source.

Also it's not plausible that somebody would dry the lighter all by itself, usually there would be some clothing present...

Been there, done that in my own dryer, albeit unintentionally, but no damage or ignition, even with the dryer on the hottest setting. And, if the rest of the population is anything like my husband and my son, this has been tested accidentally over and over, since fellas seem to be unable to take a lighter out of their pocket for anything other than to light something with it.
