Fan Feedback

Highlights of This Episode:

  • The Jeans proved to be ineffective, but in the whole Movie Magic genre, I remember a movie called "Tango and Cash" where the actors did the same thing with a belt. (they were also on a power line and I wouldn't recommend tyring that)
  • They should try straps from a bookbag. That should hold up to the wear and tear of the cable.
  • Tree machine gun - it would be fun to try it myself or see it in person. Wander what it would do to a house? How maney rounds would that take.
  • I think they need to do this one again with smaller trees like in Predator. I bet they all want to use the Dillion Mini Gun again! Kari looked like she was having so much fun and Tory, well Tory always looks like he is having fun when it comes to firepower.
  • There was a gun in Vietnam called a Quad 50, it was four 50 Calibers mounted on a turret that could be dialed in and the bullets meet at a certain range (100, 200, 300, 500, 100 yards...etc). This made all 4 bullets meet at the same place down range. It would cut almost anything in two.

Best Quotes by the MythBusters:

  • Kari - "Mmm. Smells good. Smells like destruction."
  • Adam - "I dub this J-man, the barbarian."
  • Tory - "These guys area here to make sure I dont fall to my death!"
  • Tory - "Who's with me? Come on everybody! Get yer guns! Lets go to the forest and chop down some trees!"
Robert Lee (Narrator) - "Right there. That's why our insurance premium is so high."

SCIENTIFIC METHOD
  • Being a bowhunter What should have been done for one test is to make a square big enough to stretch rubber bands taught (simulating blood vessels and veins in the body cavity) then fire the two types of arrowheads first the pointed wood then the stone arrow head that will show the difference between the two tips. meaning when the pointed wood should go through the rubber bands with minimal damage to bands but the the stone arrow heads fired should do more damage to bands. just as in hunting with modern broadheads for cutting more damage and pointed heads(field points) for practice or small game.

I am an avid gun collector here in the South. A few years back, I was out in the woods with a friend, and we were shooting one of my SKS's (7.62x39), a Turkish 8mm Mauser, and my 1911-A1 (.45 ACP). In about 15 to 20 minutes, we were able to completely cut down a tree that was approximately 1.5 feet in diameter. If we could do that with these old guns, both bolt-action, and semi-auto, I fail to see how you could not cut down trees with something like a .30 or .50 cal, belt-fed, fully auto machine gun.
Do you find this valuable?

I just watched this episode on discovery channel. I feel the way they go about handeling this myth is not quite accurate. What they did during the episode is hanging the jeans from the centre which is the weakest point of the jeans as all the stitches holding the jeans are there. Thus the jeans won't be able to withstand much weight and friction before ripping apart. What they should have done is fold the jeans into half using the centre of the jeans as the mid point and twisting it to make it into one small roll to reducing the surface area that comes into contact with the zip line. A smaller surface area means less friction therefore a higher chance for the jeans to slide down the zip line. Besides, if your life is on the line and the jeans does not work, why not just use a belt instead?

Why on earth did they fail to choose an M60? It is the classic rambo gun. Also, the M2 .50 caliber machine gun might have made even quicker work of those trees giving some credence since the minigun took a real lot of ammo to make the whole thing work.

I just saw this episode, and I wondered why they didn't try a pair of ski pants.
Normally, I wouldn't be wearing just jeans while skiing, so why not try this ?
