In a TV show many years ago about car safety they showed that the real danger from truck tire blow outs is not the tire but the Wheel. Truck wheels are two parts not one as in car wheels. When a truck has a disastrous blow out it is the wheel coming apart, sending metal fragments flying out from the wheel as it disintegrates. I presume this is caused by metal fatigue.
