Episode 79: Western Myths

Actually, there are quite a few guys around easily capable of doing that stunt and more.
And old acquaintence of mine is one. Paul Abel is a retired LEO who now does some pretty intensive training for a variety of situations at Shawnee, Oklahoma. <http://www.shoot-n-iron.com/> In his younger days he did a fast draw, fast precision shooting demo in front of thousands of people in these parts.
Paul was a protoge of the late Captain Dan Combs of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. It has been my honor to know both of these gentlemen.. and I chose that word with purpose. Both are a credit to their profession and fine men as well. Bill Jordan would have said, "they'll do to ride the border with."
I am ashamed that Dan, a genuine legend in the minds of many, now seems to be not politically acceptable for "modern times." I have never seen a single word about him on a state government website. Considering what he did for the image of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, that is near criminal.
BTW: The three I mentioned are law enforcement professionals first and their shooting is done with duty-type equipment. Fine and well-tuned equipment for sure but no trick stuff involved.
