They rip out the interior of a car, build a giant subwoofer to fill it, and then power it by attaching it directly to the drive shaft. Wear your ear plugs for this one! Also, Grant, Kari and Tory hit the road to take on two tall tales from our mates down under. If you're driving on a rough outback road, will you get a smoother ride by driving faster? mythbuster1 Washboard road myth needs to be revisited! 3 Sunday, 1:37 PM EDT by jilljb18

To evaluate the effects of a washboard road on the smoothness of a car ride, testing should be done on a washboard road, or an accurate representation of one. Grant's estimation of 8 inches as the separtion between corrugations is not correct. According to a published study, the separtion is approx. 50cm (20 inches), which is a considerable difference. In Grant's experiment the car tire did not even contact the valley between bumbs, therefore not nearly experiencing the full effect of the bumb. It would be interesting to see the results of your testing on a more realistic washboard road.

The way I have heard this myth is that it requires 4 wheel drive. The thinking is that the front tires are "pulled" over the bumps instead of pushed which lauches them . The higher speed keeps them from dropping down into smaller washboards. I have done this with several friends in Death Valley and other flat washboard roads and they all agree that speeding up in 4 wheel drive is much smoother. This is not as true for two- wheel drive vehicles. Try 4-wheel drive!!

We feel that you should look at this myth agian due to the fact that you use a car that has a sun roof as not all cars have that feature. we feel that the windows might blow if there was no sunroof. the sub was also bouncing high and that might of cause of the seal breaking. You guys love blowing things up lets try to blow the windows out of a car.

DBDesigns Shattering Subwoofer need to be revisited 0 Feb 4 2008, 12:53 PM EST by DBDesigns

There are a lot of contributing factors to the subwoofer. Looked like they were just trying to use pressure levels and not sound. They should have hooked up multiple subwoofers to an amplifier and then tried to disprove the myth. (which the video by the other post clearly shows the windshield shattering) I think this myth needs to be revisited and more thought should go into it on how to disprove it.
