| EPISODE TITLE: Episode 56: Whirlpool, Snowplow ORIGINAL AIR DATE: 7/26/2006 SYNOPSIS: Most normal people only encounter a whirlpool if they accidentally pull the drain plug while in the bath. But in this episode, our intrepid heroes Adam and Jamie once again get wet for science. They're testing the myth that somewhere on earth, there's a massive whirlpool sucking whole ships and their hapless crews to a watery grave. Could it be possible? Also, Tory, Kari, and Grant look into the frightening possibility that you could be swept off the road by a snowplow. Can a passing wintery road sweeper displace so much air that it flips an oncoming car? The team finds out — with typically chaotic results! | |

I put this in another thread but it was about the other myth in the ep.
I kept waiting in the this episode for some one to mention that a maelstom which most people call whirlpool can and HAVE sucked entire ships under with incredibble force. But no one did. Whirlpools as described in the episode are natural occurances of two streams of water going in different directions causing a vortex. That type of whirlphool is really limited in size and speed as mentioned in the episode. However, the whirlpool created in the episode was more like the type of maelstrom that can and HAS sucked entire ships under for ever. If there is a large cavern under the or lake and it is breached, the water begins to fill that cavern and creates a maelstrom in the body of water above. This is exactly like pulling the plug on a drain! The vortex created can be enormous. It is very rare, but it does happen naturally. In the case of the link on this post, it was a mistake and enormous disaster caused by drilling for oil over a salt mine! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNo-gEPWVnM http://bunchofnerds.com/2006/08/video/video-about-lake-peigneur-disappearing-after-drilling-disaster/

an eighteen wheeler rolling at 55 mph on icy and snowy hwy. The truck in the right lane the 70 mustang behind the truck, then in the 2nd lane to go around the truck on a 70 mph hwy, and as the mustang went around the truck ended up sliding into the median, toppled up in the snow drift on the passengers side of the vehical after slliding on almost pure icy hwy.

Ist you need ice and snow w/ the snowplow, there is a difference between Colorado snow and Minnesota snow. At 55-65 mph the force of the wind of the plow against a small car can roll it over. You forgot the snow and ice conditions, you just used wet concrete instead, and didn't get it to go fast enough. Oh and just in case the question arrises the tires can be new at the time as well and still produce a turnover.
