I've heard several stories about how a student would be walking around their school's campus and get shot. I was wondering If putting a loaded backpack on your back would prevent a bullet from killing you? Would the textbooks, papers, etc, prevent a bullet from penetrating, or would it go right through?

I heard this story were 2 fighter pilots retired from the air forse and became comercial pilots. One cloudy night as they were flying one of the pilots dared the other one to try to do a 1 g roll. he did the one g roll but he had no horizon to right him self. though he did the one g roll and the amazing thing is that no one in the plane felt any thing not even going up side down. i am wondering if this is possible??

| amadensor | The speed of light is a constant? (page: 1 2) | 20 | Jul 16 2008, 4:53 PM EDT by martiandrifter01 | |||
|
Thread started: Jun 23 2008, 12:34 AM EDT

I have an idea to bust the concept that the speed of light is a constant, and it only requires things you already have, including the chicken gun.
A laser is, by definition, coherent light, which means it must be only one color. If you were to shine it through a mass of air, then accelerate that air rapidly (the chicken gun with a smaller outlet, most likely clear tubing) you would be able to observer any doppler shift in the color of the light. If there is a shift in color (use a digital camera, and compare the raw color numbers from stills extracted from the stream) that would prove that the speed of light is affected by the medium it is in, proving that the speed of light is NOT a constant, and calling into question the special theory of relativity. I am not sure (have not yet done the math) how much acceleration you would need to compress the waveforms enough to get a measurable color shift on current video equipment.

| woodtraps | How fast does primer cord burn? | 3 | Jul 15 2008, 2:33 PM EDT by weaponsboy | |||
|
Thread started: Apr 10 2008, 1:22 AM EDT
Watch
Primer cord is really unique stuff. It can be used to set off other explosives, shape metal, cut metal, and blow holes through walls big enough to drive a truck through. Primer cord does not explode but burns very fast.
I have seen primer cord used to remove propellers from large ships without placing the ship into drydock thus saving shipping companies and the US Government lots of money. I was told by a US.Navy explosives officer, He states," If you strung a piece of primer cord stretching from New York City to San Diego and ignited the New York end and dialed an 11 digit telephone number to San Diego at the same time the primer cord would have finished its burn at the same time you punched in the last number." Is there a way to test to see how fast primer cord really burns? I think experimenting with primer cord would be a fun thing to do.

I was wondering if Jamie or Kevin ever attempted to replicate the "glow" that supposedly occurs around metallic objects when lightning is about to strike near.
For that matter, have they ever tried replicating Ball Lightning? I would assume it would be quite dangerous, but i would also assume Jamie would know what he's doing.

| GuiltyCol | Pouring hot kettle water on a frosty car windscreen can shatter it | 5 | Jul 8 2008, 9:00 PM EDT by amy_c | |||

Thread started: Jun 14 2008, 3:32 AM EDT

It's not an uncommon site (here in England at least) in the depths of winter, to see people pouring hot water from their kettles over their car windscreens to quickly defrost them. I've heard the myth many times that it's not a good idea as it can shatter it.
Whilst I've never believed it myself, I was recently talking to a friend who works for a car glass replacement company and he claims that calls for broken windscreens increase on cold frosty mornings.

I was at a Early America Re-Enactment recently. They were showing how the British would load and fire their muskets. They were using the all-in-one paper cartridge which held the black powder for priming and firing, and the bullet. The paper cartridge was used as the wadding. Now they were using blanks (no bullet). I was told that because of a Nitrogen Halo, (I think that's what he said) it can still be lethal. Also at a range of 5 feet it could shatter a melon. If this is true what is the range of lethality of this Nitrogen Halo? and can it shatter a melon? Specific melon was not mentioned.

I saw this in a cartoon movie once, two sea animals dry up, then because of them "crying", their tears caused a fire, then the sprinklers activated, then they live again.

i am in process of building 1 it is a revolution model super sized with 50 ft lines has 2 handles and 4 lines 2 lines per handle for top and bottom. i have tried pvc for my leading edge but it failed yes it took air but not for long it soon crashed and shattered the pvc in only 10 mph winds...... for your own visual records (case you dont already have an idea) check out on youtube and search pages for revolution kites they are fully control able at standard size if i get air can i still keep control i am extreamly concerned about my own safty on this account of stupidity but hey wheres the fun in quiting right.
